What happens during prescribed fires at Grand Canyon National Park

Smoke settles inside the Canyon from the prescribed fire on the North Rim

North Zone fire managers will be conducting a prescribed burn on the North Rim around the developed area.  Acres will be broadcast burned to remove hazardous fuel accumulation around the wildland/urban interface. These burns have been planned around the rim closure to minimize smoke impacts to staff and visitors. However smoke may settle in the developed area during the early morning and evening hours. Smoke may also be visible from the South Rim viewpoints.
